    • University graduate degree in archival studies or a related discipline.  A combination of education and experience in archives or a related field such as records management may be considered

    Duties:
    Under the direction of Archives manager, the incumbent will participate in a full range of core archival and records analyst activities that may include appraisal, acquisition, arrangement, description, access, public programming, records analysis, and providing records management advice. The incumbent will be expected to provide a high level of service to a wide range of onsite and remote clients. The incumbent will also contribute to team projects and initiatives that support the full range of activities at the Archives of Manitoba.

    Description and Duties:   This is an approximate 11 month contract position supporting a data migration and cataloguing project.

    As the Archives Technician you will be responsible for actively supporting the mission, mandate and goals of The Co-operators corporate archival program by facilitating the continued preservation of and access to permanent corporate records. You will accession, arrange, describe and preserve archival records, respond to information requests, perform historical research and create tools that facilitate access to the archival collection.
     
    What you're responsible for:

    • Assisting in the accessioning, cataloguing and deaccessioning of archival records including writing and updating archival descriptions to capture record context and content and creating and maintaining finding aids, subject indices and other research tools.
    • Providing historical research and reference services upon request from business partners in accordance with corporate policies, archival standards and legislative requirements.
    • Identifying preservation concerns for records and applying preventative preservation techniques.
    • Imaging and reproducing records to ensure document accessibility and preservation.
    • Creating and maintaining content for internal and external websites, exhibits and other research tools.

    What to expect:

    • Moderate exertion and the ability to lift or move up to 40 lbs is required.

    • Appraise (in consultation with supervisor) records in storage to determine which should be transferred to the Archives.

    • Assess the physical condition of the records and identify those requiring conservation treatment.
    • Re-box and re-file the records.


    Qualifications:

    • Be currently enrolled in a university or equivalent level archival studies programme, or have graduated recently (less than 1 year before the date of hiring) from a university or equivalent level archival studies programme.
    • Be able to read and write in English
    • Be able to read French, as some of the records are only in French.


    Compensation:    CHF 75 per working day

    Additional Information:   Internship start date may be late April/early May 2020, or September 2020.  Internship ends 13 weeks after start date. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, insurance and living expenses are the sole responsibility of interns.

    Toronto Public Library’s prestigious Special Collections include the Baldwin Room Collection of Canadiana; Special Collections in the Visual and Performing Arts; the Chinese Canadian Archive; the Osborne Collection of Early Children’s’ Books; the Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation and Fantasy; the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection; and the Library’s archives.     The Position:

    The Peace River Museum, Archives and Mackenzie Centre invites applications for a full-time, permanent Archivist.

    Peace River is a progressive urban centre in northwest Alberta, and is a scenic, growing town that is home to just under 7,000 residents. The community is situated in the Peace River Valley and straddles the banks of the mighty Peace River. The town is within a five hours’ drive north of Edmonton and two hours northeast of Grande Prairie.

    The Archivist is responsible for the organization, care, storage, and preservation of the archival collection according to the professional standards established by the Canadian Council of Archives. The Archivist is also responsible for facilitating public access to the archival collection and ensuring access is a high priority.

    Together with caring for the Archives, the Archivist will be working with Museum staff on exhibit development, conducting public tours, creating and implementing programming and special events, and, assisting in the Museum Gift Shop.

    Qualifications:

    • Post-secondary degree in History, Museum Studies or a Masters in Archival Studies or Library and Information Science;
    • Research experience with primary and secondary resources;
    • Two years’ experience in the heritage field preferred;
    • Experience with scanning historic content, grant writing & digital media outreach (i.e. Blogger, Facebook, etc) are strong assets;
    • Comprehensive knowledge of National Archives Standards (RAD) and privacy and copyright issues in archives;

    THE UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA LIBRARIES Head, Archives & Special Collections The University of Manitoba Libraries seeks an innovative, dynamic, service-oriented information professional for the position of Head, Archives & Special Collections at an Associate Librarian/Librarian rank to begin January 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter. This position normally has a two year probationary period and the salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Responsibilities:

    Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Research Support Services, the Head, Archives & Special Collections will lead a team of professional and para-professional staff including interns to acquire, preserve, and make available archives, which support the faculty, staff, students, and programs at the University of Manitoba. The Head, Archives & Special Collections oversees the operations of the Archives & Special Collections and works collaboratively with the Libraries' senior management and colleagues to transform the libraries and its archives and special collections into a hub for student and faculty engagement.     Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: " A Master's degree in archival studies or a Master's degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA accredited or equivalent institution; " At least 7 years' professional experience working in an archives, preferably in an academic institution; " Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues, and trends in archives; " Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues, and trends in managing born-digital and digitized content; " Demonstrated management, leadership, and supervisory experience; " Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload in a timely and effective manner; " Effective oral and written communication skills; " Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills and experience cultivating collaborative relationships with donors, staff, library colleagues, faculty, students, campus partners, and the community. Candidates with the following additional qualifications will be preferred: " Direct experience managing born-digital and digitized content; " Direct experience working with rare books and special collections; " Direct experience in a leadership position; " Knowledge and understanding of archival decolonization and Indigenization.
