New Professional Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize the accomplishments, dedication and spirit of those new to the field of archives and recordkeeping (including professionals working in archives, records management, information management, privacy, and preservation and conservation. This award highlights the leadership qualities of an early career professionals. 

In alignment with The ACA Equity Commitments (2020) and the Steering Committee on Canadian Archives’ Reconciliation Framework (2022), we welcome nominations of early career professionals whose participation and service demonstrate a strong commitment to one or more of the aims laid out in [either or both of ] these documents    

In 2023-24, we particularly encourage ACA members to nominate early career professionals whose participation and service demonstrate a strong commitment to The ACA Equity Commitments (2020) or the vision, principles, objectives and strategies laid out in the Steering Committee on Canadian Archives' Reconciliation Framework (2022).


The New Professional Award was introduced in 2019.


Purpose

The purpose of this award is to recognize the accomplishments, dedication and spirit of those new to the field of archival practice (including professionals working in archives, records management, privacy, and preservation). This award highlights the leadership qualities of an early career professional.

Scope 

Any member in good standing who meets the eligibility criteria may be nominated for a New Professional Award. 

Eligibility 

Current members of the Board of Directors; Governance Committee; Awards Committee; Coordinators and Association employees are not eligible. 

Selection Criteria 

The following criteria will be applied when nominees are considered for the Emerging Professional Award:

  • Nominee has demonstrated service to and active participation within the Canadian archival community. 
  • Nominee is in the early stages of their career (approximately the first seven years of employment). 
  • Nominee has professional experience in archives or related fields. Nominee demonstrates commitment to the ACA and the archival community by joining committees, volunteering at conferences or events or serving on professional associations and working groups. These contributions may be at the local, regional, provincial or national level. 
  • Nominee exhibits the promise of leadership qualities in a professional or volunteer setting. 
  • Nominee displays passion and enthusiasm for the archival profession through their activities and actions. 

Nomination and Selection Procedures

Nominations are made by the membership at large and submitted to the Nominations and Awards Committee. Bestowing the award shall be based on evidence submitted by the nominator(s) and the criteria outlined for the award. The Committee decides the final recipient(s) by majority vote and submits them to the Board of Directors.

Instructions for Submissions

All nominations must be accompanied by a completed nomination form describing the nominee’s achievements, curriculum vitae, short biography, and two letters of support (including one from a member in good standing).

Nomination form and related documentation must be submitted electronically.

End of day - Thursday, April 19, 2024

The Membership Recognition Award shall be bestowed at the Awards Celebration during the ACA Virtual Conference being held 10-13 June 2024.
