Welcome to the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA)

Founded in 1975 and incorporated in 1978, the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) is a non-profit organization that represents the needs and interests of archives and records professionals throughout Canada.

The ACA is continued under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (CNCA), which provides a legal framework for the operation of the corporation. Its mandate, organizational structure, and membership categories were again revised in June 2020 and accepted by the membership as General Bylaw No. 1 and replace Bylaws passed in 2013.

The ACA provides members with opportunities to network with archives and records professionals across the country, develop professional skills and expertise, and participate in national and international advocacy initiatives.

The ACA is governed by its members and supported by staff. Offices are located in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, Ontario.

We acknowledge that the ACA Office,130 Albert St, Suite 1912, Ottawa, ON K1P 5G4, and its employees work on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial. We recognize the Algonquins as the customary keepers and defenders of the Ottawa River Watershed and its tributaries. We honour their long history of welcoming many Nations to this beautiful territory and uphold and uplift the voice and values of our Host Nation. We respect and affirm the inherent and Treaty Rights of all Indigenous Peoples across this land. We honour the commitments to self- determination and sovereignty we have made to Indigenous Nations and Peoples. We recognize the historical oppression of lands, cultures and the original Peoples in what we now know as Canada. We believe education and learning about the past contributes to the healing and decolonization - a long and difficult process here and in other nations.

This land acknowledgement was adapted from the Canadian Council of the Arts and they developed this acknowledgement with members of the Algonquin community.
