It holds the historical and institutional records of the University of Winnipeg, as well as a number of private collections of all media, including textual records, photographs, maps, plans, drawings and sound/moving image materials. It also houses the Rare Books Collection and the Western Canada Pictorial Index (WCPI). It is the responsibility of the Archives to make these holdings accessible to the University of Winnipeg and wider communities.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="background-color: transparent; line-height: 18px;"&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;font style="font-size: 16px;" color="#15232B"&gt;The Two-Spirit Archives Technician is a part-time, term position responsible for arranging and describing records from the Two-Spirit Archives according to archival standards and best practices for Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ archives; working with Two-Spirit community members in augmenting existing record descriptions; researching and suggesting recommendations for improvements to the Archives practice for describing records of Two-Spirit, transgender, and other gender-diverse communities; and contributing to the ongoing operations of the Two-Spirit Archives, including providing support for reference and event planning.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="background-color: transparent; line-height: 18px;"&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;font style="font-size: 16px;" color="#15232B"&gt;Responsibilities:&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
  &lt;li&gt;Research history and context of creation of Two-Spirit records&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Appraise material and select records for retention&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Physically process records (ex. remove staples/paper clips, rehouse boxes and folders)&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Arrange and organize records into series and sub-series&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Describe records at fonds, series, subseries, file, and item level (if needed)&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Create finding aids for collections using Manitoba Archival Information Network&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Conduct literature review relating to implementing best practices for describing 2S/trans/gender-diverse records&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Conduct research based on results of literature review&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Write report providing recommendations for implementation of improved metadata practices relating to these communities&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Review record descriptions requiring donor input&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Record information provided by donor&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Update finding aids to incorporate donor-generated metadata&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Research and respond to reference requests relating to the Two-Spirit Archives&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Assist as needed in planning events related to Two-Spirit Archives (ex. Pride Festival)&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p style="background-color: transparent; line-height: 18px;"&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;font style="font-size: 16px;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Qualifications:&amp;nbsp;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
  &lt;li&gt;Undergraduate degree in the fields of history, cultural studies, Indigenous studies, or women’s and gender studies is required&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;An interest in pursuing a Master’s degree in the fields of archival studies or library and information studies is preferred&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Ability to easily learn new technologies&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Ability to listen carefully and pay attention to detail&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Strong verbal and written communication skills&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Ability to work independently and in a team environment&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Flexible, adaptable, reliable, and organized&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;Preferred qualifications:&lt;br&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Prior experience working in archives&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Prior experience with AtoM software&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Prior project work and/or project management experience&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Prior experience conducting research in an academic environment&lt;/li&gt;

  &lt;li&gt;Prior experience working with Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, or other marginalized communities&lt;/li&gt;

The student would gain knowledge and experience related to records description and metadata, arrangement, outreach, and the online tools that facilitate access and use, with a particular emphasis on archives of Indigenous and gender-diverse communities.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
