    Century through to current time and focuses particularly on telling the story of Lennox and Addington County. The mission of the County Museum and Archives is to preserve the ongoing stories of the county and its inhabitants, and to preserve the legal record of its constituent municipalities and outside agencies. The Archives offers reference and research services to the public, serving almost 1000 requests annually, and supports a variety of educational programs, workshops, and periodic theme exhibits presented in the Museum.

    The Museum & Archives, the old Napanee jail built in 1864, is adjacent to the county's stately limestone Court House and houses a research library and an extensive archival holding.     In 2014 the County Of Lennox and Addington celebrated its 150th anniversary. County Council planned for this milestone and believed that a significant means of celebrating its history and ensuring its preservation for the future, was the construction of a renovated and expanded Museum & Archives. This included the construction of a new archival reading room and vault, and multipurpose room for programs and travelling exhibits.

    Characteristics of Region:

    The County of Lennox and Addington in Eastern Ontario stretches from Lake Ontario to the rugged, rocky terrain of the Canadian Shield. The 2,777 square kilometre County is 130 kilometres long and is neighbour to Renfrew, Hastings, Prince Edward and Frontenac Counties.

    Description and Duties    

    The County of Lennox & Addington requires an Archival Assistant to help our Museum catalogue our newspaper collection. The position will assist with the many facets of a working museum and archives including care and handling, conservation, storage, research and reference services.

    Responsibilities:


    • Identify and locate all print and microfilmed issues of the Napanee Beaver in the Archives' holdings using existing shelf lists and accession records
    • Create an inventory of all issues of the Napanee Beaver, identifying the dates, location, and format of each issue, as well as identifying missing issues
    • Rehouse individual newspapers as needed to meet preservation standards
    • Research and create an Authority Record documenting the administrative history of the Napanee Beaver using reference and primary materials from the Archives
    • Utilize the newly-created inventory to generate a file level RAD-compliant finding aid, under the Lennox and Addington Newspaper Collection, arranged by publication date
    • Research and add a minimum of four points to the catalog records using Library of Congress standards, including name, subject, media, and place access point terminology.
    • Upload the completed finding aid to Past Perfect Online, The Internet Archive, and Archeion
    • Support events and activities in the Museum as assigned
    • Satisfactory attendance record, subject to the requirements of the Ontario Human Rights Code

    Qualifications
        

    • Minimum Post-Secondary education in archival and/or library studies, museum studies, history, or other related field (either in progress and returning to school in the Fall, between the ages of 16-30)
    • Demonstrated familiarity with computer software - PastPerfect and Microsoft Suite
    • Excellent attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills
    • Must be able to lift and move materials up to 40 lbs.

    Position purpose:

    Reporting to the Senior Director of Information and Archives Management, the Information and Management Specialist is responsible for assisting the University of Ottawa to better manage its information management assets in the support and delivery of a sound records and information management solutions, with particular focus on the delivery of SharePoint Online collaboration sites, information classification and management of digital content.

    • Responsible for the implementation of University's best practices and ensures that information, in all formats, are managed throughout their entire lifecycle - from creation and preservation through to disposition.
    • Play a key role in ensuring the Information Management Program meets our legislative and business requirements by providing guidance and support to all Departments across the University by ensuring application of policies and procedures, regulations and best practices, Classification and Retention Schedule, Corporate Taxonomy.
    • Work with key stakeholders (Services, Faculties and Research) on defining guidelines and procedures that impact the management, disposition and/or preservation of information, monitor changes to legislation and business requirements and propose changes to the University's Information Management Program accordingly. You will also conduct audits to ensure information management practices are aligned with the Information Management Program.

    What you will bring:

    • A university degree from a recognized university with specialization in Information Sciences, Archival Studies or Library Science. An acceptable combination of experience, education and/or training directly related to the position could also be considered.
    • Demonstrated (within the last 5 years) and significant experience in the provision of IM related advice, services, support and products in a M365 environment, specifically SharePoint Online

    The Records and Archives unit exists to support the LTSA's mission, mandate, and operations, working with subject matter experts across the organization to ensure that analogue and digital records produced through operational and administrative functions meet the organization's legislative and business requirements.

    The Records and Archives unit also leads the organization's digitization program whereby historic records are digitized to provide increased access for internal teams and external communities of users, including surveyors, lawyers, notaries, property owners, historians and other academics. In addition, the LTSA provides direct access to First Nations in consultation with the Historic Records Advisory Committee.

    Over the next three years, the Records and Archives unit will develop and deploy a future-focused digital preservation program  for digital records. This program will unfold in tandem with our current preservation program for analogue records, which are held in two state-of-the-art vaults located in Victoria and New Westminster.

    Position Purpose:


    Reporting to the Manager, Records and Archives/Corporate Records Officer, the Archives Specialist is an energetic, focused, and results oriented individual who is passionate about both analogue and digital records. The Specialist is an organized self-motivated, and pragmatic problem solver, who is  flexible where the situation requires, whether this involves troubleshooting or hands-on work. They are equally comfortable describing analogue records, using electronic inventories to locate vault records, overseeing digitization projects, and contributing to digital preservation workflows.

    The Archives Specialist is mature, personable, and collaborative; they understand that archival work is conducted in support of operational and administrative functions and they take a consultative approach with front-office teams to identify workable solutions that align with day-to-day activities. They are comfortable learning and using a variety of applications: document creation and collaboration systems; electronic inventory and image management systems; and business process mapping and procedure documentation products.

    What you'll do:


    Archives:

    • Understand relevant legislation (i.e., Land Title Act, LTSA Records Transfer Agreement, etc.)
    • Provide archival arrangement and description within the bounds of the current inventory and image management systems
    • Maintain and distribute the LTSA's administrative history
    • Co-ordinate archival transfers and loans
    • Co-ordinate the direct access process for external researchers
    • Develop finding aids for analogue records (i.e., inventories, research guides, etc.)
    • Develop, document, and oversee digitization projects: scanning standards; process documentation; file and data migration; and overall quality assurance
    • Contribute to emergency preparedness and business continuity documentation and monitor environmental controls for analogue records
    • Participate in requirements documentation, selection, configuration, and implementation of a digital preservation system
    • Maintain user guides for the electronic inventory system and create at-a-glance tip sheets for users
    • Review, formalize, and document analogue and digital records processes and procedures
    • On occasion, provide support to, the Historic Records Advisory Committee
    • On occasion, provide coverage for the Records Management Specialist
    • Perform other duties as required

    The Archives is the steward of the records of the University of Winnipeg and its founding colleges: Manitoba College, Wesley College, and United College. The records support the University's governance, administration, and strategic directions, and preserve its institutional memory and documentary heritage.

    The Archives stewards records from individuals or organizations connected with the University, including its faculty, staff, administration, or alumni, and records relevant to the University's strategic directions, research and teaching, or service mandate. The Archives also provides stewardship for rare publications and special collections that support the teaching, research, and service mandates of the University and its communities.

    Description and Duties    


    Through the Indigenous Course Requirement (ICR) University of Winnipeg undergraduate students learn about Indigenous peoples and are exposed to Indigenous perspectives and worldviews. Students may choose from a number of three-credit-hour courses in which the greater part of the content is derived from or based on an analysis of the cultures, languages, history, ways of knowing or contemporary reality of the Indigenous peoples whose homelands are located within the modern boundaries of Canada and the continental USA.

    The ICR Collection Archives Assistant will assist in the development of the University Archives' ICR Collection to document this important aspect of University and Indigenous history and aid in the collection's preservation, accessibility, and discoverability.

    We are looking for a Collections Assistant to join our team at the Museum. This is a full time role and is a contract position for 12 months.

    Reporting to the Manager of Collections and Digital Preservation and working closely with the Registrar, the Collections Assistant supports the review and assessment of select Collection assets and general Collections care and management. The person in this position will work with artifacts and archival materials, as well as born-digital and digitized archival media.  

    Principal Accountabilities


    • Conduct research as required to provide historical context for Collection assets;
    • Select excerpts for identified written story account assets;
    • Process deaccessioned assets according to policy and procedures;
    • Review select Collection assets and assess for relevance to mandate;
    • Compare and reconcile data between existing inventories, databases, and collections management records;
    • Enter data and assist in maintaining the Collection management system database;
    • File cataloging records, both electronic and hard copies, associated research reports, acquisition papers, and any other relevant documentation;
    • Organize, rename, and resize intangible acquisitions;
    • Conduct file cleaning and format migration where required;
    • Accession and catalogue new acquisitions to Museum standards;

    Working Conditions & Physical Demands

    • Combination of work in an office environment as well as within collection storage and museum spaces. Work will be performed in both individual and team environments.  
    • Requires lifting and moving objects from 20 to 50 pounds. Must be able to safely climb inclines, negotiate uneven surfaces, stairs and ladders.
    • Occasional use of hand tools and basic power tools may be required.

    The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a Term position in the Northern BC Archives & Special Collections, a unit of the Geoffrey R. Weller Library, at the rank of Librarian I, with proposed starting date of May 1, 2023.     Reporting to the Interim University Librarian and working closely with Northern BC Archives archivists, the Project Archivist's primary responsibilities will be centered on the facilitation of the "Archival Education Kits Development Project" throughout the first 12-months of its planned 22-month development period. The Project Archivist will research, develop, and test four subject-specific Education Kits for post-secondary learners, as well as an accompanying "Guide to Learning" for these four kits which will assist students, instructors, and community users in how to utilize the developed kits.

    These Education Kits will encompass the following four subject-specific areas:

    1) Using Photographs as Primary Sources;
    2) Women's History in Northern BC;
    3) Northern BC Environmental History; and
    4) Northern BC Transportation & Community Development.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Apply historical and archival research methodologies into NBCA holdings to identify relevant subject-specific materials to be included in Education Kits;
    • Consideration and implementation of the Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy (SAA-ACRL), the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (ACRL), and the  Visual Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education (ACRL);
    • Build extensible curriculum plan in close consultation with UNBC humanities faculty to support a variety of academic disciplines in teaching inductive reasoning and critical-thinking skills to a post-secondary audience;
    • Develop four subject-specific Education Kits for post-secondary learners;
    • Identify suitable archival materials for reproduction and inclusion in both online and physical Education Kits;
    • Create a "Guide to Learning" to assist students, instructors, and community users on how to utilize the developed kits;
    • Test 4 post-secondary Education Kits and associated "Guide to Learning" within post-secondary classroom settings and improve accordingly;
    • Rehouse archival materials and conduct basic preservation activities on Project-related materials as needed;
    • Create access to any unprocessed Project-related archival records as required for inclusion in the Education Kits in accordance with the Canadian Rules for Archival Description, as time permits;
    • Prepare a comprehensive dossier of relevant developed/identified materials for Education student archives assistants for their work on "curriculum translation" of these 4 post-secondary Education kits into content suitable for elementary and secondary learners;
    • Select and digitize materials for incorporation into Education Kits, using digital access platforms AtoM and/or Institutional Repository (Arca);
    • Perform copyright clearance for all items selected for incorporation in Education Kits;
    • Provide archival reference service as needed; and
    • Provide archival instruction as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Applicants for this position should hold either a Master of Archival Studies (MAS), a Master of Information Studies (MIS) with specialization in archives from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent accreditation in archival information science with 1 or more years of related experience preferably in an academic environment.
    • Applicants with a background in the disciplines of History and/or Education, specifically with experience in curriculum development, are also strongly encouraged to apply.
    • The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and be proficient in archival and historical research.

    Compensation: $25.00 per hour plus benefits.

    The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada Archives is the consolidated archives of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Hamilton, London, Peterborough, and Pembroke, who amalgamated to form one charitable organization in 2013. The archival facility is in London, Ontario.

    Mission Statement: The mission of the archive is to preserve and share the history and charism of the Congregation. The archive preserves, arranges, describes, and provides access to records of enduring value related to the governance, ministries, and members of the Congregation.

    Position Summary:

    The archive seeks a highly motivated and organized individual for the position of Indigenous Archives Intern. This position works under the guidance of the Congregational Archivist and carries out a variety of archival processing and digitization tasks. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training in all aspects of archival work including preservation, arrangement, description, digital preservation, and digitization, following the structure of our existing archives practicum program. The successful candidate will work on digitizing photographs, slides, negatives, and audiocassettes to make available more materials for travelling exhibits, in-house, and web displays.

    Responsibilities:

    • Preserves, arranges, and describes manuscripts, photographs, and audiovisual materials.
    • Digitizes photographs, slides, negatives, and audio recordings.
    • Preserves webpages.
    • Contributes to in-house displays, travelling exhibits, and web exhibits.
    • Other duties as required.

    Qualifications:

    • Applicant must be an Indigenous person (First Nation [Status or Non-Status], Métis or Inuit).
    • Completion of Grade 12, with preference given to those enrolled in a college or university program.
    • Interest in library and archive work and willingness to learn new skills.
    • Highly developed attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills.
    • Excellent written skills and listening skills.
    • Skilled in doing detailed work by hand, such as sewing.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software. Experience with Photoshop is an asset.
    • Experience in photography is an asset.
    • Able to lift and move materials up to 40 lbs.

    Status:
    Full-time, term position for 37.5 hours per week for 12 months. The start date is April 17, 2023. The end date is March 31, 2024.
