Description and Duties: The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking an experienced archival/heritage collections conservator to care for collections at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife. As the Senior Conservator, you will play a lead role in protecting and caring for thousands of museum artifacts, archival records, and exhibits that tell the story of the North.

Key Responsibilities

Work with the Manager, Museum Collections and Territorial Archivist to manage risks to the collections, and to work together to develop and implement recommendations for preservation including storage upgrades, housing and treatment

Set environmental standards and monitor conditions for collections storage and exhibit areas to ensure maximum physical integrity of objects and records. 

Participate in exhibit development by recommending proper supports and conditions for objects. 

Oversee condition reporting for all incoming and outgoing loans.

Qualifications: A Master's degree or graduate certificate in Conservation and three (3) years of experience working in the field of Conservation in a museum, art gallery, or archives

Strong knowledge of conservation science, museum standards, and collections care
Passion for cultural heritage preservation and collaborative work in a museum environment
Equivalencies

Undergraduate (university) degree in the field of conservation, plus five years of directly related experience (working in art, heritage, or archive conservation).
