Do you have moving image film in your archival collections, but are unsure how to handle or assess it? Are you a student who wants to learn more? The goal of this workshop is to break the ice with motion picture film and give you the tools and information you need to figure out what you have in your collections.
This workshop will provide an introduction to film and to its different components. The topics we will cover are the identification of films gauges, stock types, elements, damage types, and film soundtracks. We will also discuss how to conduct a basic film assessment and how to apply this information to the cataloguing record, plus covering some conservation best practices.
