ACA Statement condemning racism, injustice, and violence against Black people
The Association of Canadian Archivists stands together with our Black colleagues, partners, researchers, clients, friends, families, and the entire Black community. We denounce racism and prejudice and support organisations focused on combatting racial injustice in our communities. We hope to promote understanding and to create an association, a community, and a world that is just and welcoming of many voices. We
reaffirm our commitment and efforts to make our association an agent of
change and a space that is free of any form of racism. |

ACA Statement on Re-Opening Archives
As the COVID-19 crisis evolves, archives across Canada are now considering how to prepare for reopening after an extended period of closure. Archives and records professionals are just beginning to understand how this closure has changed the nature of their work, temporarily and permanently, and what effect this pandemic will have on the profession as a whole.

ACA By-Laws
The Governance Committee and ACA Board held a Q&A session on May 27 to present the proposed by-law changes to ACA members and answer questions in advance of the vote concerning the by-law at the AGM on June 23. If you were not able to attend the session, you can read the FAQ here.

ACA Annual General Meeting
The ACA 2020 AGM will be unprecedented, as it will be held virtually for the first time in ACA history! Anyone can participate from the comfort of their home, and we encourage all members not to miss this opportunity. TAATU: The Archives and Technology Unconference is a yearly event to talk archives and technology, whether to solve problems together, present new ideas and work, or just geek out for the fun of it. ACA has set up a Zoom meeting for 100 attendees on Wednesday, June 10, 9:00 am-12:00 pm (Pacific). And there is no need to be an ACA member or registered for the rest of the conference to attend -- everyone is welcome!

There will be a Virtual Trivia Night on Saturday, June 13 at 5:00 pm (Pacific). Just because we can't dance the night away in person doesn't mean we can't have fun together. Join us for the second annual ACA Trivia Night where the Kula Cup will be up for grabs once again. Get your virtual team together through Google Hangouts, House Party, Whatsapp, etc., or play solo and claim all the glory for yourself. Just remember -- in virtual trivia there is no Googling! No cheating, folks!

Mentorship Program Survey The ACA Mentorship Program survey was emailed out on Tuesday June 2, to participants in the program from the last five years. The ACA Membership Committee will be using the feedback gathered from this survey to help make improvements to the Mentorship Program. The survey is brief and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. If you have not completed it yet, please do so by June 30. Survey responses are appreciated!

Creating Online Exhibits for Digital Collections: June 22, 2020
The ACA Education Committee is please to present the second workshop associated with this year's Annual Conference, Creating Online Exhibits for Digital Collections. In this online workshop, participants will create a digital exhibit website using the open source digital collections platform Omeka that you can continue developing on your own and share over the web. Participants will be encouraged to bring your own collection of digital objects and metadata to use in the workshop. Instructor: Devon Mordell, University of WindsorTime: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm EDT

News from Archivaria
Check out the new Archivaria website, where the latest issue - Archivaria 89 (Spring 2020) - is now available.
Of particular note is the Dodds Prize winning article, "Medical Cartography in Southern Ontario, 1880–1920: A Records Perspective," by Renee Saucier. The article discusses disease mapping, as well as public health policies and politics from the past, a topic that provides interesting comparisons with the current outbreak.
Dodds Prize: A reminder that the deadline for nominations for the Dodds Prize is June 30, 2020. Created in 2011, the Gordon Dodds Prize recognizes superior research and writing on an archival topic by a student enrolled in a Master’s level archival studies program.

Collecting past documents for Special Interest Sections
Jeremy Heil, the ACA Director at Large who is the point person for Special Interest Sessions (SISes), held a meeting on May 27 for SIS members. The issue of information management was discussed in the meeting, in that with changes to the ACA website over the years as well as changes in SIS membership, some past documentation has been lost. If you were part of a SIS in the past and hold some of the documents related to that SIS in your own records, please reach out to Jeremy at dal2@archivists.ca to pass this documentation along. |

Special call for blog posts for COVID-19 and archival responses
COVID-19 has transformed the ways in which archival organizations operate and, at the same time, is an object of study for current and future researchers, as well as various health care communities. The ACA Blog In the Field is looking for contributions from archivists and archival institutions regarding their initiatives, strategies, and methods to either document responses to COVID-19 or with regards to their organizational functioning. - How does the pandemic affect archival labour, from an organizational perspective or from archivists’ points of view?
- What are your organization’s policies and procedures regarding archivists’ safety and the preservation of holdings during a complete shutdown?
- What is the impact of the current situation on archival organizations’ crisis management and planning?
- What are the initiatives of your organization regarding the collection of records on COVID-19?
- How has the collection and dissemination of data on the pandemic mobilized your institution to reach out to various communities?
- How can archival records be involved in future planning and responses to global pandemics?

Member News
On May 1, Gilles Lesage passed the torch to Janet La France, the new CEO of the Saint Boniface Historical Society (SHSB), which manages le Centre du Patrimoine in Winnipeg. Gilles was an employee of the SHSB for 30 years and its general manager for 24 years. He leaves an invaluable legacy for Manitoba as a whole.
