Ancestry Continuing Education Award - Online Applications Open

Deadline - December 21, 2018

Dear ACA members,

As the Chair of the Association of Canadian Archivists Foundation (ACAF), I am pleased to announce that our board is now ready to receive applications to the Ancestry Continuing Education Award.  This award has been made possible by the sponsorship agreement into which the ACA and Ancestry entered in 2015.

This year we are accepting online submissions through a web form in English and French (please see the links at the bottom of this message).

This $1200 award will be given to an Indigenous student undertaking professional training in archives or records management.  The definition of professional training is broadly defined for this award and could include a degree program, institute, workshop or other educational offering that meaningfully advances the applicant's knowledge.

The Canadian archival community has recognized the significance of the report that resulted from the work carried out by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.  The ACA and the ACA Foundation Boards hope that bringing greater diversity to the Canadian archival system is but one small way in which we can advance the process of Canadian reconciliation and build a stronger community.  Over the next few weeks and generally throughout the year the ACA and ACAF will be working to publicize the award and ensure as many people know about it as possible.  Please forward this post widely and in particular to anyone who you think would like to apply for the award.

Further information and instructions for how to apply can be found on the ACA's website: https://archivists.ca/content/ancestry-continuing-education-award-program-application This information and the application is also available in French (see here: https://archivists.ca/content/programme-de-bourse-de-formation-continue-ancestry-formulaire-de-demande) and we welcome applicants from across Canada.

The deadline for applications is December 21, 2018.

Chris Trainor
