Re: Research undertaken by the Canadian Museum of History for the safeguarding of archival collections in Canada

Hello all,

On behalf of the ACA, I'm copying below the text of a message we sent to Dr. Dean Oliver, Director of Research at the Canadian Museum of History regarding the recent exchanges that took place on this listserv. After an exchange with Dr. Oliver, I am confident that this initiative is in good hands and that some fruitful collaborations will result.

All the best,
Kathryn

Dear Dr. Oliver,

The Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA), representing over 600 archivists from across the country, has been monitoring the messages circulating on the Arcan-l listserv, and we are pleased that your institution has let the archival community know that you will be working with your colleagues in Library and Archives Canada with regard to the research project on safeguarding archival collections.

Among the additional resources which might be of value to your researchers are the ACA's highly rated scholarly journal Archivaria as well as our annual conference, this year to be held in Regina. Many provincial and territorial councils also have on staff Archives Advisors available to assist institutions with general questions such as the one posed by your researcher.

ACA's mission is to provide the archival profession leadership and to facilitate an understanding and appreciation of Canada’s archival heritage. Thus, we hope that, in addition to Library and Archives Canada, you and your staff will keep our association in mind as a national resource on archival matters should such a need arise again.

All the best,
Kathryn Harvey
President, Association of Canadian Archivists
