Ancestry Continuing Education Award Recipient
Posted on behalf of Jenn Roberts, ACA Treasurer and Chair of the ACA Foundation
As the Chair of the Association of Canadian Archivists Foundation I am pleased to announce that the 2016 winner of the Ancestry Continuing Education Award (http://archivists.ca/content/ancestry-award) has been selected. Ms. Jayde Duranleau is the recipient of this year's $1200 scholarship which is awarded for study in the field of archives or records management.
Ms. Duranleau is a member of the McLeod Lake Indian Band in McLeod Lake, British Columbia and she has recently completed the Introduction to Archival Practice course offered by the Archives Association of British Columbia. Ms. Duranleau is working with the Land Referral Office of McLeod Lake to create a heritage and culture centre in the community which will contain an archives. One of the goals of the McLeod Lake 'archive project working group' is to create a resource for providing traditional land use information to industry stakeholders. The group also hopes that the archives will help make material pertaining to the Tse'Khene language more widely available.
The selection committee was impressed by Ms. Duranleau's thoughtful application, her passion for archival work and her excellent references. This award will help her continue her studies with the AABC.
